South Pacific Hub
Building Economic Independence
Building Economic Independence
building young lives
building employment pathways
building economically sustainable communities
Why?
In a rapidly changing world our South Pacific neighbours are at risk of falling further behind economically, educationally and technologically.
Progress has always been slow on island time. Foreign aid has become a way of life. Graft and corruption are common place. Stories of shifting sands and rising tides help fuel cries of climate change. Behind the gifted politicians are beautiful people with big hearts, big families, big smiles and strong territorial ties to the land and sea.
Foreign "Aid" comes in many forms. The South Pacific Nations receive donations predominantly from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan and the USA. Australia provides $1.7b in aid annually, New Zealand $1.8b, Japan $329m and the US $210.
Official Development Aid (ODA) comes in the form of loans. China writes some of the biggest development loans in the region. China wants roads, ports, seafood, timber, minerals, strategic naval bases and debt-trap influence.
The US claims to spend $7.2b in the Pacific ... mostly on naval and military bases. In 2023 the Biden-Harris Administration announced $810m in "strategic aid" in response to the Solomon Islands signing a security pact with China in 2022. In 2024 The White House announced an additional $200m for strategic leadership education, climate management, energy management, upgraded communication infrastructure, sustainable fisheries, new embassies, more diplomatic personnel and a range of community development programs.
Education funding is not high on the radar for western donors. It constitutes only 6% of non-infrastructure (project) strategic spending. China has sunk $344m into regional education since 2000*.
This is our time in history to invest in the quality of South Pacific education and economic sustainability. We have the opportunity to deliver high quality conservative content to a largely Christian population. We stand to benefit from regional stability and lots of diligent, mobile workers on our farms, building sites, nursing homes and hospitals.
