Community Education
Building Tomorrow's Leaders
Building Tomorrow's Leaders
Why
This century has seen a significant shift in school curriculums from the "three R's" to broader life skills known as social and emotional learning.
The latter subject areas were once the domain of social organisations like Scouts, Guides, YMCAs and PCBCs to varying degrees of success.
Young men, for example, who completed their Queens Scout or Duke of Edinburgh Award had a significant breadth of life education outside the school system and often went on to become good quality leaders in life.
With the demise of programs for young men and pressure on schools to get back to core content, there is now a lack of resources in the community to pick up the slack and impart valuable wisdom.
Community Education typically addresses life skills, craft skills and group relationship skills. Subjects can be as diverse as communication, navigation, camping, cooking, gardening, photography, car maintenance, personal psychology, project management, pets, sailing, dancing, beliefs, theology, astronomy and even Chilean basket weaving ... a raft of material designed to enrich people's lives.
Community education is not normally rigorous. It's often presented in a social context with loads of room for social interaction. Sessions often follow a simple video + discussion pedagogy with little opportunity for building long term memory.
iCapisce can easily become a foundational catalyst for course content and group discussion. Topics can be undertaken as pre-reading to enhance discussion and debate. Topics can also be reviewed at a later date before a quiz or certificate level test.
iCapisce Community Education is a global opportunity with significant social change value.
